[cancelled][Abbey]dated 18 Dec 1742; William Preston(Cregg Miln) + wife Alice mortgage for 5 yrs for £78 from Thos Bridson sd Creg Miln abbey rent 20s - Preston to occupy + pay lawful interest; Witt John Costean x, Thomas Woods;Wm + Alice 'x';discharged 3 May 1748: Thos Bridson acks full payment
This mortgage was repaid by taking another mortgage this time from John Quayle (Thomas Bridson was a witness to this deed)

[Abbey]dated 8 June 1748;recites that William Preston(Creg Miln) did mortgage sd miln + all houses, gardens + croft adj sd miln for £100 to John Quayle by deed dated 3 May 1748 now for an additional 40s do further mortgage sd property to John Quayle; Witt Wm Curphy, Jon Quillin (Preston 'x'');annexed addl mortgage for 40s dated 19 Sept + further addl mortgage for £3 dated 25 Nov 1749 + another for £5 dated 5 Jun 1750
SSS Oct 1757 #62 Bond & Security
dated 4 Jul 1757;William Preston(Cregg Mill) indebted for £100 + interest to John Quayle(Comptroller) grants for sd Quayle's better security all the mill lands tenements etc all ready in his possession utill sd £100 + interest fully paid; Witt John Gill, Sam Kennedy, Mathias Taggart
It would appear John Quayle obtained the mill and adjacent crofts one of which he developed by 1767 to support a flax mill.
