A favourite subject of many artists eg A J Collister - now inaccessible in a private estate. Dr Larch Garrad writing in 1985 describes the garden of Ballamanaugh Mansion House initially built in 1936 by Sir Mark Wilks Collet and his wife, who converted the sheltered glen below Cronk Sumark into a garden which included the small water-corn mill and wheel. The garden was considerably further developed by a subsequent owner Col. A Scott, who in the 1970s allowed the garden to be opened on a Sunday in early summer for charity - Garrad's description of the garden dates from this period - by 1985 under a new owner Dr Daniel MacDonald these public open-days ceased and at the time of publication she describes the gardens as in transition.
