A somewhat unexpected item, the Baldwin valley was not easily accessible in the mid 19th C and the Island was generally poor in timber, the afforestation of many of the uplands mainly started post WW1. The ground to the right of the mill appears to be littered with planks of wood - around this period there was a Douglas Steam Saw mill operating not far from the harbour with considerably easier road access for imported timber
