[From A Poetical Guide to the Isle of Mann, 1832]
In poesy 'tis fair to take a flight
Withouten rule or compass through the air;
To travel without bounds, beyond all care,
Not more by day than in the darkest night.
But grave realities of flesh and blood
Are matters of more genuine weight and gross;
Plain ev'ry day affairs of mere plain prose,
Roads, money, vehicles, horse-flesh and wood.
The distances of such material travel
The Table No. 1 will all unravel.
The Table No. 2 in prose will spew
The price per mile each vehicle will go
