(See Plate 3 and page 58)
At the time Canon Kermode completed the manuscript of this book it was impossible to get anyone to undertake the printing and Canon Kermode died before arrangements for publication could be made.
While he was writing the book he consulted a number of people and received advice and assistance. To all of these grateful thanks are due.
I regret that there was no complete record left by him of those who helped and I am unable to give thanks to everyone by name.
It is due to the great interest taken by his wife that it has at last been able to achieve publication.
The author was in constant touch with Mr. William Cubbon, former Director of the Manx Museum and received a great deal of information and help from him. Special thanks are due to Mr. Cubbon for all the advice he gave and the interest he took. He also checked through the typescript and corrected errors of facts and references.
Grateful thanks are due to the following gentlemen for their help and interest: Mr. P. W. Caine, Mr. David Craine, Mr. Megaw, Director of the Manx Museum, and Canon E. H. Stenning.
Mr. W. T. Kneale has been good enough to undertake the task of checking the proofs and I am very grateful to him for undertaking this work.
The author prepared no index for the book. This tedious task has been undertaken by Mr. N. Mathieson and to him my thanks are due.
Grateful thanks are due also to the Editor of Archaeolgia Cambrensis for kindly lending the blocks which illustrate Mr. William Cubbon's article on Cronk yn How forming Appendix I. C. W. D. KERMODE.
