JURBY.


BEQUESTS TO THE POOR.

Extract from the Will of Ann Christian, wife of Mr. Wm. Christian, Attorney Genl. A. D. 1746.

" I do leave, bequeath, and devise, to and for the use of the poor of Jurby, my right, property and interest, in and to a parcel of Intack land in Lough-na-dwagh, my husband consenting and agreeing to give his right in like manner, the Vicar and Wardens of the said Parish for the time distributing the profits thereof upon Easter Monday in every year, to and amongst the poor of the said Parish."

From an old Parochial Register:

" The last Will and Testament of Pat. Moughton, who departed this life the 20 Novr. 1747.

" Item, I leave to the poor of the Parish six shillings, to be paid by my wife, five shillings by my son John to the said poor, and one shilling to be paid by my daughter Catherine to the said poor: these twelve shillings to continue in the Parish, to yield yearly interest to the poor.

The Vicar and Wardens have, from time to time, sold turf from the lands bequeathed by Mrs. Christian; and they have now, altogether, the sum of seventy-one pounds, five and tenpence British, belonging to the poor of the Parish; for which sum, Thomas Teare, of Ballateare, has passed a bond and mortgage to the Vicar and Wardens, dated 17 Jany., 1827, on a parcel of land called the Links, and a field adjoining the Links: interest 5 per cent. per annum.

Income arising to the Poor of the Parish.

Interest on foregoing Mortgage for £71. 5s. l0d. at 5 per cent .
