William Cannell was according to Cubbon [Bibliograpy] was more likely a publisher and bookseller rather than a printer. He was active from 1840-1844 with premises in Duke Street and also in Parliament Street, Ramsey.
Judging from the various asides in the guide he would appear to have been a supporter of the Established Church and conservative in politics.
Much of the guide is a reprint of an earlier Guide by G. Jefferson (hence some of the self-advertising within it) - Jefferson's fifth edition appeared in 1840 and it is from this that the lithographs (poorly printed) were taken. That guide also had a trade directory for Douglas.
