The most coherent discussion of this Pleistocene mammal is that given by Lamplugh. Most guidebooks quote the finding of a near complete skeleton and its subsequent exhibition and claim by the Duke of Athol who presented it to the University of Edinburgh.

It would appear that P.M.C. Kermode's national pride was wounded by this loss from the Island and he devoted much time and money to locate an even better specimum - which he did; his find now stands in the Manx Museum.
