The Annie you refer to was almost certainly Annie Alberta Crum, "Nan", the daughter of the Crums who ran the Crum Brickworks company, that moved to Auckland from Ashburton. Sadly, she had a stroke at a young age and lived in a nursing home from I think the 1960s. Her daughter migrated to the UK and lives in Devon. Apparently she was absolutely brilliant and lively, and it's likely that after the stroke she kept all her faculties but simply couldn't communicate.
