I knew I had a policeman in L'pool too! Just had to find him...John E. Preston with his family in Everton in 1891. He came from Peel , starting out as a Shoemaker like his father, and returned there to retire by 1911, although I can't find him in 1901.

I've had a few ancestors work in L'pool but they seem to return to the island when they can find work, presumably. Even if they stayed in L'p, they were often buried in the IoM, at the end of the 19th Cent./ early 20th Cent. Who can blame them?
