Hi Donna
I've put off trying to find the parents of my g g g grandmother, Catherine Kermode nee Moore b circa 1760, because Moores are such a nightmare to identify. So here goes...
Catherine Moore married Thomas Kermode, farmer, of Surby Rushen, on 31 Jan 1784 Rus. Thomas Kermode's 1842 will mentions the will of his late wife, Catherine:
"..........well and truly paid at by and from the hands of Henry Kermode
of the said parish of Rushen Executor of the last will and testament of the said Thomas Kermode
senior, who was the executor of the last will and testament of Catherine Kermode his wife also
deceased and which wills are herein after more particularly mentioned......."
Unfortunately, Cath Kermode's 1832 will isn't on Brian's list, which is a shame because it would probably be quite illuminating. I suspect that the significant wealth which was passed down to the next generation came mainly from Cath Moore's family.
Looking for the parents of Cath, the 2 main possibilities are:
1) bap 25 Jan 1760 Rus, to John Moore and Elizabeth Corrin
2) bap 23 Dec 1759 Malew, to Hugh Moore and Margaret Gawn.
Number 1) is the more likely of the two, as there are no children baptised Hugh in the family that I'm aware of.
I don't know when Cath's parents died, so it's a case of prevailing on your good nature yet again and requesting MI look ups initially for these two Elizabeth Moores:
MOORE, Elizabeth Rus 13 Sep 1796
MOORE, Elizabeth Rus 2 Jan 1810
I'm hoping that one of them will say something like "Elizabeth als Corrin, wife of John Moore of....." and that I can also find a burial date for John Moore.
Both the Elizabeth Moores above look as though they have wills:
MOORE, Elizabeth 1796-2 Rus E w 0106405
MOORE, Elizabeth 1810 Rus E 1 0106413
So fingers crossed that I'll strike lucky with an MI, and then I can acquire a will which might show whether I've found my g g g g grandmother.
