Re: James Brown of Bride 1822

The mystery of Eliza Cowle rings a bell with me. Could there be a connection with the Corletts of Loughan y Yeigh, Lezayre. John Corlett of Loughan y Yeigh, Captain of Lezayre,(1762 - 1834) married Ann Casement (died 1847 aged 90) and had issue one son, the notorious Vicar-General Thomas Arthur (1792 - 1861) (of "prepare to meet thy fate" fame) and at least four daughters. Ann (1798 - 1871) married Daniel Kee of Kiondroghad, Andreas, Eleanor (b. 1802) m. William Teare of Andreas; Sarah (b. 1790) m. John Cowle in 1816. Then there was Elizabeth (b. 1788) who married Thomas Cowle of Ballavair, Bride. I don't know if Sarah married his brother, but according to Mrs Radcliffe, the succession to Ballavair was John Cowle, Gent, then John Corlett Cowle of Ramsey.

Somewhere I got the idea that Elizabeth was widowed very young, and married again in Bride. Could this be your missing Eliza Cowle?
