Most of the IOMFHS transcripts are very good, but at least part of the printed 1851 census transcript is terrible. I think it must have been done by one person and not double-checked. After I couldn't find someone on the transcript I took the photocopies of the pages his family was on to the PRO in London and compared the transcript to the London fiche. I found that full second names in the original had been abbreviated to a single letter in the transcript, that James, male, was transcribed as Jane, female, and that my relative Oliver was in the transcript as Charles. Almost every entry on the pages for Douglas I had photocopied had some kind of change (abbreviation), or error.
