Hi Mary
I was assuming that Jackie had got Joseph Henry's 1st August 1883 birth date from the birth certificate, or from Jackie's father's knowledge of his own father's birthday. Just to clear up one minor point, in Jackie's message, it says "gr grandfather" on the top line, and should say "grandfather":
"I would like to hire someone to research my family roots. I have very little info.My gr grandfather is Joseph H Moore, DOB Aug 1 1883.Son of William Moore and Ellen Leece .My Grandfather was Baptised at the Kirk-Patrick Parish in Peel.He came to Canada as a teenager with both parents. His mother Ellen Leece returned to the IOM,as she was unable to adjust to a new country. She may have re-married.My grandfather never made it back to the IOM,but fondly talked about his childhood and how beautiful the island was.I am bringing my father in Sept.and I know he will love the IOM as much as I do."
The 1891 and 1901 census entries I found do look as though they are the right family, and I'd guess that the family emigrated to Canada circa 1899 and that Eleanor plus the younger children had fairly recently returned to the IOM in April 1901 as the census-taker initially wrote "William" before crossing it out and replacing it by "Eleanor" as head of household.
