Re: Crennells of Ramsey
In Response To: Crennells of Ramsey ()

Hello David,
It looks as though Len is correct. However you need to go back one generation at a time, checking all possible details for each one before going to the previous one - that way you won't climb the wrong tree!

This is from the Maughold parish register:
Marriage 12 Sep 1900:
William Rechab CRINNELL, 41, Bachelor, Bill poster, Ramsey, [father] Daniel Crinnell (dec), Joiner, and
Charlotte Ann COWLEY, 20, Spinster, Ramsey, [father] Thomas Cowley, Mason.

If Len's birthdate for him is correct he has chopped off a few years to marry a much younger wife.
You need to buy that birth cert to which Len referred.

Daniel Crennell & Elinor Christian married in Maughold on 13 Aug 1836 (details of fathers and occupations were not given at that date).
They had 5 children bapt in Ramsey between 1837 and 1845 - see the IGI on FamilySearch.org.

Brian Lawson's 1841 census index (adult ages rounded) has:
[Surname Forename Age Parish Piece Folio Page]
CRENNELL Daniel 25 Ram 1464/8 35 2
CRENNELL Eleanor 25 Ram 1464/8 35 2
CRENNELL Mary 3 Ram 1464/8 35 2
CRENNELL Daniel 2 Ram 1464/8 35 2
CRENNELL Eleanor 6 mos Ram 1464/8 35 2

His 1901 census index has:
CRINNELL Charlotte A 21 Ram 5307 180 191
CRINNELL William R 41 Ram 5307 180 191
The entry at 1 Radcliffes Lane, Ramsey, has William R as a Bill poster, and both b.England.

In the 1861 census the family was in Little Bolton, Lancashire: Ancestry index has:
Daniel Crimell 46
Eleanor Crimell 46
Daniel Crimell 22
Sarah Christian Crimell 16
Mona Catherine Crimell 11
Emma Priscilla Crimell 7
William Racah Crimell 5
John W W Crimell 3

They are at 14 Moss St., Little Bolton, with Daniel Crinnell, 46, a Carpenter & joiner, b.Isle of Man. Wife Eleanor b.Isle of Man, and the first 2 children also b.IOM. Son Daniel unm 22 Carpenter & joiner, and Sarah Christian 16 Fancy cotton weaver. The other 4 children b.Wigan, Lancs.

Are you living in the IOM? Because I can direct you to some early Ramsey maps if so.
