Below is an extract from the 1838 Santon will of Christopher Gick, father of Jane Gick (1804-1831) who married William Clague ( bap 15th April 1804 Arbory ) on 6th June 1827 Santon. William Clague and Jane Gick had a daughter, Elizabeth, bap 7th March 1830 Santon. Jane Clague nee Gick died 13th Oct 1831.
"Sixthly I leave and bequeath unto my granddaughter Elizabeth Clague the sum
of ten shillings British."
This child Elizabeth Clague is also mentioned in the 1832 Santon will of her mother, and in the 1833 Santon will of her grandmother, Catherine Clague nee Kermode.
I'm trying to find out what became of Elizabeth and her widowed father, William Clague.
Using Brian Lawson's census index, and working on the possibility that both William and Elizabeth were alive in 1841, and still on the IOM, and both in the same household, the only possible census entry for them is at Ballanorris, Arbory:
CLAGUE Elizabeth 10 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE William 35 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE Margaret 25 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE William 60 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE Margaret 60 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE Catharine 5 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE Margaret 5 Arb 1463/3 7 8
CLAGUE Jane 2 Arb 1463/3 7 8
WATTERSON Catharine 35 Arb 1463/3 7 8
WATTERSON Margaret 8 Arb 1463/3 7 8
all born IOM except 5 year old Margaret Clague who was born in England.
I'm working on the possible theory that widower William Clague b 1804 married Margaret Clague . The IGI has a William Clague marrying a Margaret Clague on 10th August 1833 in Santon, but it's a patron submission.
The 60 year old William Clague in the household may be 25 year old Margaret's father or stepfather, and 60 year old Margaret Clague may be 25 year old Margaret's mother or stepmother.
I haven't found a credible 1851 Manx household with a William Clague b 1804 and an Elizabeth Clague age 21. But I may have found the older Wm and Mgt couple with Cath Watterson and her daughter Margaret:
1851 Arb D1 p16
Ballanorris
Wm Clague age 76 farmer b Rus
Mgt age 75 b Arb
Cath Watterson dau wid age 47 home servant b Arb
Mgt Watterson U "dau" age 17 servant b Arb
I've found 2 households ( in Liverpool and Birkenhead ) with a Manx born William and Margaret Clague combination, which I'm currently working on.
It would be very helpful if a kind person would do look ups for these 4 Arbory burials:
CLAGUE, Margaret Arb 22 Jun 1806
CLAGUE, Mary Arb 15 Feb 1820
CLAGUE, Margaret 82 Arb 9 Apr 1857
CLAGUE, William 75 Arb 13 Jun 1851
MIs for any other graves in the vicinity which might be connected would also be appreciated.
