My great grandfather's name was John Robert Wattleworth. He migrated to the United States around 1876 to New Orleans, Louisiana.

I thought he hailed from Isle of Man, but all of the U.S. Census records say England, that his parents were from England and Scotland and that he was born around 1854. Searches of passenger ship lists and naturalization records (U. S.) have so far turned up nothing.

Using ancestry.com to look for English census records, I did find a John R. Wattleworth with a reasonably close date of birth (1853) to that of my great grandfather. That John Robert Wattleworth was the son of John and Catherine Wattleworth residing in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England; his siblings are listed as Emily, Charles, Catherine and James. The 1853 birth information lists John Robert Wattleworth's place of birth as Wirral, Cheshire County.

Does anyone recognize the name John Robert Wattleworth (b. about 1854) and sailed to the U.S. in the 1870s and can provide more history?
