The Welsh for the Isle of Anglesey is Ynys Mon (with a circumflex above the o) and at one time a few hundred years ago it was also known in Welsh as Mam Cymru - The Mother of Wales - because a lot of food crops were grown there and shipped to the rest of Wales.
There may be a common root here.
