My research into the evolution of the Manx landscape and land system is opening up major issues concerning Manx surnames. Before I duplicate this, has anyone researched issues such as:
1. The distribution by parish of surnames in 1511/3 amd 1540 (acknowledging Les Quilliam's research)
2. Issue of mutually exclusive names; I am working on issues such as - are the following mutually exclusive in the earliest records:-
Quayle (MacFayle)
Watterson
Taylor
And what is the relationship between
Wat(t)erson and Qualtrough (McWhaltragh)
Are the following mutually exclusive
MacQuyne
MacQuane
When do Cowley and Kewley diverge?
3) THe surnames Quayle Quine and Watterson are said to derive from the forenames Paul, Matthias and Walter. At what period were these names in widespread use i.e. when were the surnames formed from them?
I hope this can classify as Manx genealogy.
