The 1891 census shows William (WGD2), grandson (13) and Annie, granddaughter (16) living with William (47) and Catherine Murray, nee Bates (49) at 18 James Street. William and Annie could be siblings or cousins. I too was concerned about the ages of WGD2's mother, ? Murray, and grandparents, but this could be the essence of the problem: babies to teenage mothers.
Although 1878 is the date of the requirement for commencement of civil birth registrations, there were probably hiccups early on. But I am still surprised that a baptism of WGD2 is not recorded at the time of his birth in 1878. It could most l;ikely be that he was illegitimate and I need to look under another surname.
What makes you think Elizabeth Corteen is the missing mother?
The marriage certificate of WGD2 gives his father's name as William George Dalgleish (WGD1), tobacco spinner, of 38 Demesne Road. And I still don't have details of WGD1's birth.
Any further thoughts gratefully received.
