Re: Parish Records 1700's Agneash?

Thanks Lois [and also Sue and Frances].
I did find in the Lonan Parish Records a marriage between Stephen Kewley and Cath Skillicorn which was dated Oct 2nd 1751 but there was no other information given eg witnesses - the only info recorded was the names and date of marriage.

The problem I am trying to solve is this:-
I have proved my Kewley line back to Philip Kewley who was living in Onchan in 1790 the time of my ancestor's birth [Matthias son of Philip].
Although I have seen the marriage of a Philip Kewley and Cath Kelly around the right time in the Onchan records I can't prove that Cath Kelly is 'my' Matthias' mother.
So I tried to go further back to see if there were any Wills which might confirm that Cath Kelly married 'my' Philip but that was unsuccessful as I haven't got her father's name.

I can't find a baptism or burial for Philip Kewley or Cath Kelly. The only Philip baptism recorded which fits is a son to Stephen Kewley [baptised in Lonan] and the only Stephen Kewley I can find anywhere is from the Black Quarter, Onchan.

Which brings me back to Stephen Kewley marrying Cath Skillicorn.
There was a Cath Skillicorn baptised daughter of John of B'larragh 31 July 1728 but I haven't proved anything there in connection with Stephen.
But I also found a Cath Skillicorn in a Will with Kewleys mentioned as well in the same Will from Agneash [think it was John Skillicorn - Cath's father] and I wondered if those families were brought together through marriage eventually [and the vicar didn't have any ink in his quill to record such events.]

Were the Agneash Parish Records all included in the Lonan record book?

I know Philip lived in Onchan when his family was born and if Stephen was his father there was no inheritance to any land or property as Stephen had older brothers. Stephen and his family seem to have moved back to Onchan from Lonan.

I don't think there is anything else I can tell you other than to say my head is quite sore from banging against the brick wall.!!!

I seem to be following your trail quite a bit as you have transcribed a number of Wills which relate to my family. So thanks for your hard work there it makes life easier when you can find some info on-line.

Thanks again
Viv

I did find a Cath @ the House of Industry died 26 Dec 1863 age 84 widow of Philip Kewley of Baldwin but I don't know which Philip he would be - possibly Matthias' brother bap 9 March 1788 but I presume if she died in the H of I she wouldn't have a Will.
