Wow! What a phenomenal amount of info - thankyou both so very much.

I can now see the connections - William Starkey aged 3 months living with the Martin family was described as nephew - but he clearly wasn't. In the same household in the 1851 census was 19 year old Ann Martin - obviously, William was in fact, her illegitimate son.

Am I to understand that John Starkey had 2 wives - both called Ellen/Eleanor? How sad - Ellen 1 seems to have died within a year of her marriage.

Mary - did you see the census page? It really looked like Old Crop, but the location you describe of Old Cross is spot on, because as you know, so many of my Starkeys lived on Maughold St. at some time or another.

All these details you have both given me will certainly help tremendously in piecing together my disparate Starkeys!
