Re: Skinners from Bride
In Response To: Re: Skinners from Bride ()

Hello,

It is great to hear from you. Where do I start first? Firstly, I have several branches of Skinners in my Garrett/Goldsmith family tree. Here are two main Skinner lineages from Bride that I am researching.

Margaret Sophia Gawne (chr. 20 May 1865 and died 29 Jan 1933 Bride) married John Skinner (chr. 1851, died 19 Aug 1917 Bride) on the 11 August 1888 in Bride. They had 8 children which include:
1. Florence Evelyn b. 15 Oct 1889 bur. 2 Oct 1973 Bride
2. John Stanley Vondy b. 5 Nov 1890 married Catherine Ann ?
3. Thomas Arthur b. 11 May 1892
4. Catherine Ann b. 4 Mar 1894 married Thomas Crennell 25 Feb 1911 Andreas
5. Sophia Elsie b. 2 Jul 1895
6. Lillie Jane b. 23 Dec 1898 married Frederick John Paul Ockford then William Teare
7. William Mark b. 27 Jan 1901
8. Charles Edward b. 1904

The other main branch is:
Daniel Skinner (chr. 10 Mar 1804 and bur. 3 Jan 1879 Bride) married Mary Ann Goldsmith (chr. 6 Jan 1804 and died 25 Jun 1888 Bride) on the 17 May 1834 Bride
They had 9 children:
1. Ann chr. 15 Sep 1829 Bride
2. Elizabeth (b. 1835) married John Kneale 17 Sep 1859 Andreas
3. William (chr. 26 Sep 1840, died 9 Mar 1922 Bride) married Maria Corkill 20 Jul 1887 Andreas
4. Thomas chr. 10 Mar 1843 Bride
5. Jane chr. 27 Dec 1845 Bride married James Corlett 9 Jun 1870
6. Ann chr. 27 dec 1845 Bride married Thomas Edward Criggal 20 Oct 1860 Lezayre
7. Ellen (b. 1846) married Thomas Sephton
8. Susan b. 1849 Bride
9. Christian chr. 19 Jan 1851 Bride

My father and I visited Bride, IOM in Apr/May this year and visited Joan Kaighin and Barbara Skinner from “Hilcroft”, Cranstal, Bride. Do you know them? We also visited them 2 years ago. My Goldsmith/Garrett line owned land at Ballacowle Beg, only 200m from where they lived. When we visited them at Hilcroft, I wasn’t able to make a connection with their Skinner side but since then I have. They are related to William Skinner and Maria Corkill.

Any information you can supply me with would be most appreciated. I do have much more on these lines and would love to exchange information.

Cheers and Thanks
