Re: Kirk German burials
In Response To: Re: Kirk German burials ()

Hello Kay

Alice MM married Allan Gorry (1853 Peel) who was the 7th and last child of Thomas Gorry (1804 Peel) & Mary Ann Kaighin (1813 Douglas).

Alice's & Allan's first child was Catherine Ann (1896 Peel) after who's birth they moved to Liverpool, and had another 8 children of whom my father ,George Gorry (1903 Liverpool), was the 6th. I too have been unable to find a marriage record for them, and wonder if they eloped somewhere because of possible family objections to their relationship - there was a considerable gap in their ages.

One of my sisters was Mona Lillian Gorry (1923 Liverpool) but, as far as I am aware, she did not visit IoM. She did cross the Atlantic but with her husband Michael McCracken (1910 Ireland) and family to Canada, BC. Ancestry & FreeBMD list a few Mona Gorrys but I don't know if they're are related to me.

James Kermode, and some sons and grandsons, was a baker, and after he and Eleanor married they lived in Mill Rd, at Nos 3 & 33 Patrick St, both described as bakeries, 63 Douglas St and, at the 1901 census, back in Patrick St - No1.

The 'missing' child is Amelia Jane Kermode (1858 Peel) who died aged 9 weeks, hence the lack of records thereafter.

regards

Alan
