William Edward Oates born 14.09.1812 was one of my ancestors, and I would very much like to have a copy of the bookplate you mention, particularly of the coat-of-arms. There were, however, a number of William Edward Oates, through the generations, one of whom (probably the son of the abovementioned) who traveled fairly extensively, and who as an amateur painter made some paintings of Pretoria, South Africa, around 1873. The book could have reached Australia via various avenues.
