Re: Cubbon/Radcliffe
In Response To: Re: Cubbon ()

Hi Sandra,

When we were corresponding in 2004 about Margaret Radcliffe, Carol Gosselin found this will:
http://www3.telus.net/lawson/twill/1843_018.html - which established the next of kin of Margaret's brother William Radcliffe (the son of William Radcliffe & Joney Cowle).

They were "Philip Radcliffe, Margaret Cubbon wife of Robert Cubbon, John Wade, Esther Howland wife of Robert Howland and the petitioner" who was William Cubbon of Andreas.

Brother Philip Radcliffe bapt.9 July 1776 Andreas, marr. Catherine Kelly 20 Jan 1808 Braddan, d. 1843 Braddan. http://www3.telus.net/lawson/twill/1843_017.html
Half-brother John Wade bapt. 16 Dec 1761 Andreas marr. Joney Brew 29 Dec 1790 Andreas.
Esther Wade daur of John Wade & Joney Brew bapt 22 April 1795 Andreas marr. Robert Howland 9 Dec 1817 Andreas.
And the petitioner William Cubbon bapt 6 Jan. 1795 Bride, son of Margaret Radcliffe later Cubbon.

Looking back at these email messages I see you didn't answer my last three sent Oct and Nov. 2004, and we went on with other Radcliffe families. Perhaps you were having computer glitches. The last request was that you put together all the bits and pieces of your descent on to Word along with the censuses, and wills etc. we had sent you, and Carol and I would try to fill any gaps. If everything is recorded in full, in date order, it is much easier to see where people fit in.

Interesting that William was deported! I see you have found the NSW govt website which indexes the convicts among other immigration records. You probably noticed that the "Convict Exiles" had already served part of their sentence in a penitentiary in Britain and were granted a conditional pardon or ticket of leave on arrival in the Colony. This means that he was free on arrival, subject to certain conditions.
