Hi Raymond,
Thanks for the marriage info. I agree with Len that he took about 10 years off his age for his second marriage, which can be seen clearly in those census records (previous message) - now that we are certain he was a widower.
The only Evan Christian son of William of either of the two ages Evan gave was Evan CHRISTIAN bapt 11 June 1810 Bride, son of Wm CHRISTIAN & Margaret CANNEL.
If you look at the IGI for those parents (Familysearch.org) you will see a number of Evan's siblings in the extracted bapts for Bride. There was a couple of the same names having children bapt in Andreas, but they look like a different couple - they were having children bapt too close in dates to the ones in Bride to be the same couple.
There are two marriages, in Andreas on 30 May 1795 which would be that of the Andreas couple whose eldest child appears to have been bapt in 1796, and another of the same names on 4 Feb.1800 in Kirk Michael, who could be Evan's parents. Their eldest child appears to have been bapt in 1802, Bride.
Perhaps Margaret Cannel came from Michael?
There is a William Christian in Bride in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, but married to Eliza (age 61 in 1851 b.Lezayre). William aged 74 in 1851 Farmer of 112 or 12 acres, 4 labourers, b. Bride? (terrible writing). All children b.Bride.
From the children they look like William C. & Eliza COWELL - but only marriage found was 17 Nov.1827 Bride, and you would need to look at the original record to see whether William was a widower. LDS film no.0106713. If the correct couple they seem to have had several children pre-marriage.
Also there in 1851 is grandson William H. age 3 b.Bride. This looks like Wm Henry CHRISTIAN bapt 16 Feb.1848 Bride, son of Wm CHRISTIAN & Cath.
Wm Christian and Margaret Cannel had a son Wm bapt 10 Aug.1808 Bride. But if correct, father William (& Eliza) also had a second son William, bapt 17 Nov.1821 Bride, with them in 1851 census, unmarried. This isn't impossible - I've come across it before in wills where there were two sons of the same forename, usually from different marriages.
There are several Margaret Christian burials in Bride between the date of last child bapt (see IGI) and William & Eliza's children, so could be the right family - but only guesswork. It would help to look at the parish register.
William looks like the one bapt 12 Feb.1777 Bride, son of Wm CHRISTIAN & Isable COWLE. On same LDS film number for the Bride parish register.
