Re: Joughins of Andreas
In Response To: Re: Joughins of Andreas ()

Lynda, if you look at the Will of John Lace of BallaSeyr Andreas, 1701, Arch. no. 68 [LDS film no.0106208] - transcript on Brian Lawson's website: http://www3.telus.net/lawson/twill/1701_003.html - you will see that this names his daughter "John Joughin and his wife Bahee Lace enter their claim against the Executrix of their father John Lace for 16 shilling due to the said Bahee by the death of her mother as also for the legacy left by their grandmother".

They are also named as executors in the will of John Lace’s wife no. 2., Averick CALEY, who died 9 Jan.1703/04: http://www3.telus.net/lawson/twill/1703_002.html

Both these events happened during the gap in the Andreas parish registers 1686-1704, and I didn't find the wills which mentioned the legacy "due to the said Bahee by the death of her mother as also for the legacy left by their grandmother". IoM wills during the 17th century (and sometimes into the early 18th century) often, if not usually, recorded wives and widows under their maiden names, and when there were no burials it was only after reading through a will and finding the surnames of her children that she could be identified.

If we could find those two wills it could take the family back two generations.

I wouldn't copy anything from those ancestral files without sources and double-checking the evidence.
