Re: Gawne and Skinner families
In Response To: Re: Gawne and Skinner families ()

Hello again Jane,

I just found the married certificate of Thomas Gawne and Catherine Ann (also known as Ann, Anna, Cath A) Teare. It is as follows:

Marriage of Thomas Gawne and Ann Teare, No.6
April 4, 1850
Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church in the Parish of Bride in the Isle of Man
Thomas Gawne, 28, Bachelor, Labourer, Johnville, father: John Gawne, seaman
Ann Teare, 22, Spinster, Ballacondyr, father: Chas. Teare, seaman
Married in the Parish Church at St. Bridget's according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church by me, Danl. Nelson, Rector
This marriage was solemnized between us, Thos. Gawne his x mk.
Ann Teare her x mk.
In the presence of us. John Criggal? Chas. Howland

Thomas Gawne's father's name was John Gawne, a seaman. The only Thomas Gawne born in around 1822 in Bride with the father's name John was Thomas Gawne, chr. 30 Mar 1822 to parents John Gawne and Jane Sayle.

My ancestral line extends from the Teare's, Goldsmith's and Garrett's of Bride and Andreas. My Goldsmith/garrett families owned Ballacowle Beg, in Cranstal, Bride. There is also mention of this cottage in Thomas Gawne's Will.

I would love to hear your comments.

Cheers

Craig
