I don't think there was any jibe against incorrect spelling, or punctuation. I think the writer was concerned that people who ask for help, actually stop and think exactly what the question is that they are asking, as sometimes questions can be unclear, and then the researcher spends time looking up the wrong thing, and that helps nobody.
I am glad you have been able to overcome your self-confessed poor education - lack of education does NOT mean lack of intelligence. and more people should understand that. Well done.
I am aware that the BBC RAW (Reading and Writing) campaign is supported by Onchan Library in a comfortable way, and helps people enjoy reading, when they may have been put off at school for some reason or other. The girls there are really nice.
