As I understand from my own family members people got very short notice to leave their home taking
personal essential furniture /possessions with them to
wherever they could find to go---friends /relations/
rented houses etc. Remaining furniture was labelled
with the owners' names & addresses & taken away by
lorries provided for " the duration of WW2"
for safekeeping in a local ballroom. After the war many locals claimed labels had "fallen off " & they could
not find their possessions or replacements were inferior.
