Hi Brian. I think there were 2 x Esther Shimmin in Kirk Rushen around 1786-90s.

a) The submitted entry IGI - see above - birth 1790 K.R. with parents, John Shimin and Mary Ranan (Ronan).

Marjery Ronan left a will, of which I have a copy, in 1793/4, in which one of the benefectors is her grand-daughter (although the word neice is crossed out) - Esther Shimmin. Marjery appears to only have had one daughter, Mary, although she calls her Molley in the will.

b) Esther Shimmin the daughter of Cath Gell and John Shimmin.

Marjery also mentions Henry Corkish in her will. Christopher appears to be his son.

This was the connection I was trying to explore.

You are right in that either of the Esther Shimmins could have married Christopher Corkish.

My Ancestry subs have expired so someone on FTree Forum is looking up 1841 census for me... Liz
