Looking for my John Mylchreest/Faragher Family--I was Sally Mylchreest before I married. I had a great-grandmother who was married to John Mylchreest, my great-grandfather. They married on the I.O.M. , date unknown. Her name was Elenore Isabella Sage Wade, born on 8/05 1869. John Mylchreest was born in 1863. Around 1887 or 1888 they sailed to the U.S., settling in Ishpeming, Michigan an iron ore mining town. They had one son, Josiha Percy Mylchreest born on the I.O.M. on 1/25/1888. On 10/04/1889 John Mylchreest was injured in a mining accident and died at the age of 26 on 10/09/1889. He is buried in Ishpeming, Michigan and on the same lot is a headstone for John Kewley, a manx man from the I.O.M., who died at the age of 21 on 12/04/1889. Could there be a connection of families?? To the best of my knowledge, Isabella Mylchreest went back to the I.O.M. after John died. She was expecting another baby. While in the I.O.M. she had a baby girl, Nellie Mylchreest, born on 4/23/1890. Nellie stayed on the I.O.M. or England when Isabella came back to the U.S. (date unknown) until whe was 21 years old. I have no idea where Nellie grew up or who raised her. On 5/13/1911, Nellie arrived in America and went to her Mother's in Ishpeming. By this time, Isabella was remarried to Joshua Comish also from the I.O.M. They had four (4) children together. Joshua's parents were Thomas and Sara (Cowley) Comish. On the U.S.1900 census there were two men from the I.O.M. living at the Comish home along with the children; Percy Mylchreest, Thomas, Fred, James and Edith Comish. The men were Richard Wade b. July 1877 and William Wade b.1879. Could these two men have been brothers of Isabella's? or nephews? Joshua Comish died 11/12/1905 leaving Isabella a widow for the second time. Isabella lived in Ishpeming until 1914. At that time she moved to Gaastra, Michigan (Baltic Location). She died on 6/24/1952 and is buried in the Ishpeming Cemetery along with her two husbands, John Mylchreest and Joshua Comish.
FARAGHER/MYLCHREEST; When Josiah Percy Mylchreest grew up, he lived in Gaastra, fell in love and married Emma Blanch Faragher. She was from Douglas, I.O.M. and was a mariner. Her sister Mary Esther(Hattie) Faragher was living in Gaastra, Michigan, USA also and she was married to Thomas Carson Baird from the I.O.M. Carson and Hattie married in the US on 10/19/1909. Blanch's grandfather was Paul Faragher, shoemaker, of Circular-road, Douglas. He attended the Loch Promenade PM Church regularly. Her father, Robert Henry Faragher was married to Rachael Roberts. They lived at 14 Westminster Terrace, Douglas. To my knowledge their children were Emma Blanch, Mary Esther (Hattie), Mona, Sissy, Elsie, Stanley and Harry. Blanche married Percy Mylchreest, Hattie married Carson Baird, Mona married J. Walker, Sissy married J.W. Wilson, Elsie married C. Patterson. After Blanch and Percy married on 5/02/1914, they had a son John Mervin Mylchreest born on 1/01/1918. On 2/08/1920 Blanch died, leaving Mervin (2 years old) and her husband Percy. Percy never remarried. Percy's mother Isabella Comish raised Mervin along with Percy. On 4/26/1937, Percy was struck by a car and was killed. Mervin is my father. He passed away on 11/16/1987. I know there is family living on the Island or England because he was in touch with them (his aunts) until he died. Is there ANYONE who can help me find someone from the Mylchreest/Faragher families?? My e-mail is sfiorani@pasty.net
