Re: callin name
In Response To: Re: callin name ()

Hi Deby and Mary
I don't know about anyone "emigrating" from Patrick to Lonan. The earliest ancestor I have identified was married in Kirk Michael in 1860, and claimed to have been born in Andreas around 1839. He named his father as Robert Callin, but I have not been able to identify which Robert this was.
The Corkhill connection : I have Ellen Jane Callin, b 1865, married George Corkhill 1889 and had 3 daughters, Victoria 1889, Emily Maude 1891, and Violet 1897. I don't know of any sons, but I haven't researched this branch very much.
I also have her half-brother, William Henry Callin, b 1876 Lonan, died 1945 Lonan. He had one child (that I know of) with Elizabeth Corkhill, called William James,b 1905, d 1910, Lonan.
William Henry Callin later married Isabella Corteen and had children: William James, 1915, Mabel Gertrude, 1916, and Neville, 1917. Isabella had a child from a previous marriage called Lily Corkhill, b. 1900.
I was given some of this information by another BB member and I haven't checked it properly, as it is not my direct line. But perhaps it will help you to try some new avenues. It doesn't look like this branch of the family went to Canada though.
Good luck
Susan
