Hello Mrs. Rosa,
Perhaps some clarification is in order, both from you and from the board in general, and I'll try to present to you an explanation of how most, if not all of the members of this board approach this little hobby of ours.
As far as I am aware, nobody here makes any money on the research they do. In fact, there's an entire religion dedicated to making genealogical aids and records both accessible and free. They do this with the desire that all people everywhere rediscover their heritage and ancestry. It is in that spirit that the members of this board freely share whatever they can with whoever wants it, and in a public forum. If you look through Brian Lawson's site, you'll find dozens of submitters in the wills section - with over 5000 Manx wills generously submitted; on Frances' site, there are many acknowledgments of various contributors to articles, records and documents as well as submissions and corrections. Although this work can seem very solitary at times, none of us would consider that any of the work we do is either solitary or "for our own gain" as you suggest. It is for the benefit of ALL that we undertake this research and share what we find. Each stone unturned now is one less stone to be unturned by someone else somewhere down the line.
You use the term "free web-site information" that you don't want to be a party to as if information is only legitimate or legal if it's paid for. The old axiom that nothing is free is no longer valid. We call this the Information Age because this wonderful tool called the Internet allows us to gather and share information in a manner inconceivable a generation ago. The entire paradigm is busted! Before that paradigm broke down, it was very difficult to find information because that information had to be researched, gathered, published, printed and marketed. In order for that system to work, consumers had to pay to access the information. We, as a society are therefore programmed into thinking that free information is not legitimate or legal if someone somewhere is not making money off of it. [As a caveat, I do not believe that all information should be free - original thought, or more specifically, works protected by intellectual property and privacy laws do not apply here.] Genealogical source documents, official records and works already legitimately in the public domain should be made freely available to all. So because you have been conditioned into paying for information doesn't mean you need to feel this way anymore. Welcome to the new paradigm, it's quite liberating here.
I invite you to visit my own website, www.kaighin.com. I'm sure that you will be able to find information on both Cains and Corletts, and if you're lucky you might even find information on your very line. Wouldn't that be something? I have spent literally thousands upon thousands of hours gathering and publishing this work so people just like you can freely benefit from my work.
Now I would like you to reconsider your position. Your comments and your unwavering position regarding the sharing of your information are being viewed as offensive by members of this board.
And one last note; I wouldn't be so quick to attribute your “non-wavering” to your Cain ancestry - these are Manx attributes, so we've all got them! Although the Manx refer to it as stubbornness.
Aloha,
