Hi David,
Thanks for the information. You didn't say whether you got my messages sent on to your email before the website shut down? I was trying not to start another thread! If my previous messages came through to you, would you please put them back on the board again under "Jones/Cowell look up"?
Thanks - I think there were two messages, other than the question about his father on his marriage cert.
If you got these messages, you will have seen that there was another Louis Henry Cowell, son of John, who will have been the child in the school records. So that takes us back to square one, unfortunately. In the lost messages I gave you the census records for that family, but no point looking them all up again if his father was recorded as William.
In my first message I suggested that you look up the St Barnabas, Douglas, parish register for the baptism on 5 March 1871 of Louis Henry illegitimate son of Ann KILLEY, to see whether any additional information is given. You can look at this on film at any LDS Family History Centre. Film no.0106187.
I wondered why a LDS Church member has put a marriage on the IGI, which isn't from the register, for "Ann Cowell Killey" "about 1870" and her birth as "About 1849 Douglas" if not trying to legitimise Louis Henry - so what do they know that we don't? The bapt would be a good start.
Sue
