Census help William Moore mariner?
In Response To: Re: Re William Moore ()

Frances, this is the William Moore Sylvia was asking about before, as to who his father was.
She wrote "My ancestor William Moore born 1830 in Maughold Parish died on 17.5.1905 in Millom, Cumbria..." etc.

Sylvia, if you respond to one of the previous threads, of which there are now about five, rather than starting a new thread each time, people will know who you are writing about.

The William b.1830 in Maughold was "William Illegitimate son of W Moore & Mary Corteen bapt 24 Jan 1830".

His mother was Mary daur of William Corteen & Mary Kirmeen of Thallooqueen Maughold, who was bapt. 27 Mar 1803.

Who his father William Moore was is still not known, but the marriage record confirms his name was William, that he was a mariner, and that he died some time between 1830 and 1856.

There were two burials of William Moore of the right age during that time in Maughold:
William MOORE 52 Lewaigue 28 Jan 1850
William MOORE 64 Ramsey 31 Aug 1855.

The Lewaigue one was a farmer, and I think the Ramsey one was a joiner, although he had sons who were ship's carpenters (if I have the right person). No occupations were given with the two Maughold burial records, and we don't have Ramsey burial transcripts for that time - so there could have been a William Moore mariner dying there during those years.

There was a William Moore widr aged 43, Master Sailor, with two sailor sons, from Little Cross Ramsey in the 1851 census who could have been "W Moore", but I suspect he was the William MOORE aged 53 of Ramsey buried Maughold 23 Mar 1860, so after the marriage date.

Can anyone find a William Moore mariner, fisherman, seaman, or sailor, in a census in any of the parishes who could have fathered a son in 1830 and died between 1830 and 1856?
Or perhaps in a M.I.?

Thanks

Sue
