I have now checked (several times) the IGI marriage in Liverpool, and subsequent birth of William. The marriage entry shows William's father to be James, whereas it ought to be John, so no luck after all. Thank you for the census info, which I am sure is them. Do you have any idea where they were in 1871, and do you think that William could be the fisherman who was tragically killed in 1877 when the mast and rigging on the fishing boat crashed and struck him ? (Report in Manx notebook)
Sorry to have taken so long to reply but I have been searching for them elsewhere in 1871 - without success.
Is there any way that I can accesss IOM censuses ?
