Hi Tom,
I have transcripts of the Maughold parish registers, and the only John Brew marriage around that date was that of John Brew and Elinor Croughan on 21 Jan 1826, with no other details given.
Their children baptised in Maughold were:
Mary daur of John Brew & Elinor Croghan 12 Nov 1826
John James son of John Brew & Elinor Croghan 11 Mar 1832
William Joseph son of John Brew & Elinor Croghan 24 Aug 1834
Robert son of John Brew & Elinor Croghan 23 Jun 1839.
This family was at Ballaskeg Mooar, Maughold, in 1841.
It looks as though your cousin in law found the marriage and assumed it was a transcription error for Corlett! I hope he hasn't published it anywhere.
Don't forget that Ellinor, the eldest daughter of John Brew and Ellinor Corlett appears as 'Corlett' on the IGI, on 6 Feb.1833, which means that she was recorded as being illegitimate. - So they weren't married then. Judging from other illegitimate entries, the baptism in the Saint Mathews, Douglas register probably has "Ellinor illegitimate daur of Ellinor Corlett and John Brew.... ", but you need to look at the register to see whether this is correct, and whether further details were given.
Sorry, I don't have access to Ancestry to see whether their marriage and bapts/births of their other children were recorded in England.
Sue
