Re: GARRETT & Associated Families
In Response To: GARRETT & Associated Families ()

I just came across your post. My aunt conducted some research on relatives in the Isle of Mann.

She has Elizabeth Garret (ggrandmother) emigrating to US in 1848 with her mother Jane Garret (b. 1819) and grandparents William Garret (b. 1792) and Ann Curphey (b. 1791). William was baptized in Jurby Church Feb. 18, 1792 and Ann in Lezayre Church.

William was said to be one of six children (William, Daniel, Mary, Christian, Robert, and Catherine) of Thomas Garret (bp May 17, 1750) and Ann Caley. Thomas Garret was the son of John Garret and Catherine Clarke.

Ann Curphey was one of 11 children (John, Isabel, WM, Mary Jane, Thomas, Ann, Charlotte, Edward, Jane, Mary Ann, and Joe) of John Curphey (b. abt. 1749) and Dorothy Teare (b. abt. 1753).

Elizabeth was illegitimate and had a twin sister Ann who was kept by her father, an English dance instructor named Reynolds. Her mother Jane had been a servant on a farm when she became pregnant.

I believe my aunt found the headstones for William and Ann in a little town in Wisconsin northwest of Milwaukee.

I don't know how accurate this information is, but thought it might be helpful.
