Re: 1841 census address 'Grange' at Lezayre

There were a number of schools in the area, Mrs Christian's Sulby school,
The Parochial School, Kneale's School and Kelly's Mountain School.
I don't know the dates they were open. Perhaps the Manx Museum would have
old records. However I did find births of two girls in Lezayre on the I.G.I. Jane Porter O'Brien b. 18 May 1830 and Emma Porter O'Brien b. 29 May 1934 daughters of Cuninghame Porter O'Brien and Emma Roose. By 1881 census the
Allens were farming Upper Grange. In Thwaites 1863 there is a Thomas Peel O'Brien, gentleman living in Ramsey and in 1894 Brown's Directory there is
a William Daniel Roose, gentleman at 6, Ballure Road, Ramsey. In Constance Radcliffe's book 'Ramsey 1600 to 1800' she mentions that in 1711 there was
a William Kneale Roose and in a footnote says that Roose was a nickname
given to the Kneale family. In Manx "rooisht" means naked. Probably not connected, but quite amusing. Marie Radcliffe
