You can get everything connected with land records in the Deeds Registry in Douglas. No sale of property (Conveyance) has legal standing until it has been registered in the Deeds Registry. Likewise no Mortgage or Redemption or Affidavit concerning land is legal until it has been registered.
Unfortunately you, as has been said, must know the name of an owner at some stage in the proceedings. Indeed some properties have never been sold ! Title to some has always been transferred by Will.
All deeds are cross referenced and the reference noted on the covers of the deeds.
Reference goes by Parish-Year-Month-Number.
I am looking at a photocopy negative of my property.
Onchan-1946-September-4631.(also noted as registered at 3.30 o'clock ! how about that)
It used to be necessary to trace all possible deeds(with a common name like mine in a large Parish like Onchan would have been difficult)and pay to examine each deed to discover if it referred to what you want.
All these deeds have been computerised but you will still need to go to the Registry to use their computers.
To make matters even more difficult, we now have a Land Registry which, I believe, has all parcels of land registered !!! Further I do not know.
