I have some Carkins in my family, I was told that they originated from the IOM and were Quakers. I have also been told that they did, at some point change their surname. I am wondering if they were originally Kaighins. I have them listed as living in Cheshire. I am wondering whether there is some obvious reason as to why they had to change their name, e.g persecution etc. Can anyone help.
Thanks
