no but I know latchford - father's favourite dodge to get the children out of mother's hair was to take us to latchford locks to watch the then never-ending stream of boats using the Ship canal (being mercenary we used to beg foreign coins from the sailors !) - it was about half a century ago now it is totally deserted I've been told.
The tannery I'm thinking off was the early 19th century one near Central station almost in the centre of town.
