Thanks for the information. My grandfather, James Looney, ran a tannery in Warrington (well, Latchford) having trained on the Isle of Man. He was sent there when he was 11. A hard life they had then. The Latchford tannery could be the same one you describe. I will look up the manx notebook and see what I get.
