Thanks Pam, Francesand Bruce for your interest and information. There are some helpful leads. It is possible that alternative ways of spelling my surname were recorded in the 1851.1861 and 1871 census's especially if my GGGM Amelia was illiterate.
It has been suggested that Amelia and Ann might have been Catholic, how might these records be accessed?
