This is really interesting....
I presumed this was the Levi Houghton that after taking his wife and son to Liverpool, then went on to leave his wife and live and have children with Kate Jenkins of Chester? (my grandfathers parents) He never married Kate, presumably because he was already married to Christian? But Levi and Kate lived on the Wirral until they both died.
However, there is a family story that says there is a member of the Houghton family, connected to Levi, who became a mayor in Ohio - hence my interest in your note.
I have searched records for a Levi Houghton and this is the only one who could have possibly fathered my grandfather? (Born 1911)
The family have always referred to Levi as a slightly dubious character, but the plot really is begining to thicken...!!!
