Thanks Bruce for your message re the Gills of Bellacain Cottage Ballaugh. This may be relevant as my mother lived at Ballacain Cottages, Jurby, in the 1930s. The Whitehaven period may have been a short term thing, perhaps working in the pits during the Great War. Was that a way of avoiding conscription into the forces?
