Re: Murray ancestors
In Response To: Murray ancestors ()

I'm assuming that you have seen Liverpool records which show that Peter Murray was born in the IOM in the 1770s, but with the parish not given, and that he died in England? Or is there a possibility that he returned to the IOM? What are the Liverpool records you hold?

If he was the Peter Murray bapt Maughold, the parish reg. has no further info - just Peter son of Peter Murray & Ann Quayle bapt 1 Aug 1779. They married in Maughold on 13 Dec 1766.
This is only the second "Murray" marriage in the Maughold register.

Peter was their 5th child of seven bapt. in Maughold, but several appear to have died, with the name John being used three times.

Do you have the name of your Peter Murray's wife, as well as the children?

The problem is that the above Peter Murray bapt 1779 appears to have stayed in - or returned to - the IOM, appearing as aged 60 in 1841 (age rounded down), a farmer in Crow Creen, Maughold with his [2nd?] wife Judith [Fargher] aged 42 and his second family, and was buried aged 64 on Nov 16 1843. Also in the household was his son James [son of Peter Murray & Jane Kennish b.1822].

His son Peter from his first marriage is living nearby with his wife Judith [Kerruish] and family. [Peter son of Peter Murray & Jane Kennish bapt. 28 Apr 1805.]

Maughold registers have:
Peter Murrey & Elizabeth Corris marr. 18 Jul 1795 [assumed 2nd wife of the father Peter Murray, Ann MURRAY als QUAYLE having been buried on June 2 1789].
Peter MURREY was buried Jan 20 1805.

Peter Murray & Jane Kennish marr. 2 Jun 1801.
Their son Peter Murray & Judith Kerruish marr. 25 Jul 1831.
Jane MURRAY aged 56 buried Nov 15 1834.
Peter Murray & Judith Fargher marr. 14 Feb 1835.

It is possible that Peter Murray & Jane Kennish lived in England for a while, and had children there? There is a large gap between son Peter's bapt in 1805 and son John's in 1817. From then onwards the next children are bapt at about 2 year intervals.
