Hi Barbara. Sorry for delayed response.
I can't tell if you've got the right Richard but it seems quite possible.
Here's the scoop for him on all the census's from Ancestry:
1901 at Ballacostain Farm, Santan:

1881 you have already
1871 at Barruse Lonan
Richard Gelling, Serv Unm 20 Farm Servant b Santan
at home of Norris Clague 55 a farmer of 104 acres
A Charlotte Gelling Unm 32 b Marown is also a servant there.
(Interesting for me is that the next entry below is Jane Scarff 64 widow nee Gelling and she is the sister of my great-great grandfather William Gelling. This is probably a coincidence but maybe not!)
1861 census at Moaney Cottage, Santan
Isabella Gelling Head Mar 37 Ag Lab Wife b Santan [no sign of husband, though]
Thomas Gelling Son 13 Scholar b Santan
John Gelling Son 12 Scholar b Santan
Richard Gelling Son 11 Scholar b Santan
Elizabeth Gelling Daur 9 Scholar b Santan
Jane Gelling Daur 8 Scholar b Santan
Margaret Gelling Daur 6 b Santan
James Gelling Son 2 b Santan
Next entry above at Moaney is Thomas Gelling 41 Stone Mason employing 3 men b Santan and wife Margaret 39 and 5 daughters and one son.
From IGI: 9 Dec 1849 Richard GELLING son of Edward GELLING and Isabella GILMOUR at Santan (they married 4 Apr 1846 Santan).
From IGI: 14 Mar 1824 Edward GELLING son of John GELLING and Elinor CORRIN or CURRIN(they married 7 Nov 1812 Rushen)
Gellings at Santan seem to go back to a Michael GELLING who married Margaret CLAGUE there in 1787. I have never seen a Michael Gelling before and the IGI doesn't have any Michael earlier than that.
